Kitchen design

This stunning kitchen was part of the extensive renovation of an older home that had not seen improvements for many years. Walls were removed, and the original boxy layout gave way to reveal a modern and functional living space, of which this new kitchen takes centre stage.

The layout, particularly the orientation of the island, was chosen to ensure this family kitchen works well for multiple chefs and guarantees those in the kitchen do not feel removed from the other social areas. With an easy flow to the dining and living spaces, the kitchen also connects seamlessly to outdoor entertaining via a bi-fold servery window and large French doors.

Striving for a simple and elegant aesthetic, a classic monochromatic scheme was chosen with the request to include a touch of marble for its timeless appeal. Dark stained crown cut oak with its characteristic grain adds warmth, and the tactile quality of Acrymatte acrylic gives a sophisticated and durable finish. Shark nose handle-free detailing to all under bench units and tall joinery keeps the kitchen sleek and uncluttered.

To make the kitchen practical for a young family, clever storage solutions were a must. Board games and wine glasses are housed in the two tall units facing the dining table, while a large pantry unit within the kitchen provides ample dry food storage. A Hafele Le Mans II storage mechanism makes the most of the tricky under bench corner, while above bench a pocket door disguises the microwave and kettle, allowing the homeowners to hide these often-awkward appliances.
